Sarah Andrews McNeil
Through my artwork I investigate, experiment, document and promote the invasion into the divergent landscapes of the natural and human fabricated worlds. Because of the rapid, and often hasty, development of residential and commercial spaces, an amplified tension now surrounds their boundaries, and a divide has been created. I am interested in the real and imaginary overlapping regions between these worlds, essentially the remaining areas not claimed by either.

Inspired by the hunting efforts of early Explorers who wished to discover uncharted territory, my artistic quest is to enter into this gray area and to blur the boundaries of these two spaces, in order to increase the square footage of a new hybrid region. In this area the domination of either world is not apparent, yet evidence of both worlds exists. In this process I also merge my fascination with science into my art making process by implementing the scientific method to make observations, formulate hypotheses and to perform experiments.

It is in this new landscape where my artwork collectively resides, my pioneering spirit and escapist desires are satisfied, and I trespass to become the: cartographer, surveyor, scientist and explorer.
